This system teaches concepts, maintenance procedures, and techniques
to repair today's complex vehicles. Testing includes power distribution,
and starting and charging systems. Meters are included to allow
testing for voltage, current and resistance.
System components include:
Built-in digital multimeter
Battery and battery charger with load test
Customer complaint lights
Solenoid · Engine speed control
Starter
Fuse block
Outside temperature control
Ammeter
Alternator and alternator disassembled schematic
The Electrical Power simulator allows the student to experiment
and to troubleshoot the electrical power systems in a car under
normal and malfunctioning conditions. The instructor can insert
twenty-five active faults.
Experiments and troubleshooting exercises, promoting safe and efficient
electrical diagnostic procedures, include:
Understanding battery and power cables
Detection and repair of Batter malfunctions: battery discharged,
high resistance in ground cable, corroded negative and positive
battery terminals
Operation and function of the alternator and voltage regulator
Detection and repair of Starter malfunctions: high resistance in
starter cable, open starter and solenoid windings, shorted solenoid
harness, open electrical window breaker
Understanding the starter system and power distribution
Detection and repair of Fuse, Link and Component malfunctions: open
fusible link M, open charge indicator lamp, ignition switch terminal
5 and 11, open gear switch and fusible link J
Understanding the role of fuses and fusible links
Detection and repair of Alternator malfunctions: open and shorted
stator winding, worn brushes, open and shorted rotor winding, bad
diode assembly, voltage regulator, and loose belt
