This system guides the student through a program of reading and
understanding schematic diagrams. The simulator develops an understanding
of automotive wiring systems and components. Logical troubleshooting
techniques needed to repair modern smart cars can be practiced.
System components include:
Built-in digital multimeter
Battery, fuse box, connectors
Brake pedal, bonnet, boot, door and glove box openers
Head/turn/tail/reverse/park/hazard, vanity and dome light
12 volt test light
Head, parking, hazard and turn signal lights
Continuity tester
Conditions difficult to create with actual equipment or mock-ups
can be created repeatedly by a simulated system. Malfunctions can
be inserted into the fuses, connectors, switches, components and
actual wires in the harness.
Experiments and 48 fault-insertion troubleshooting exercises include:
Identifying and building electrical circuits: series, parallel
and combination
Detection and repair of front and back turning signals, stop lights,
and hazard lights
Identifying electrical system faults: opens, shorts, bad components,
and high resistances
Detection and repair of front and back corner lights, parking lights,
and backup lights
Detection and repair of headlight and interior light subsystem malfunctions
Detection and repair of open gear selector switch
